Drywall Calculator
Estimate whole drywall sheets from room dimensions or known coverage area, selected panel size, and allowance.
Drywall estimate
Choose the sheet size you plan to buy, then review the whole-sheet estimate before ordering.
How this estimate works
The calculator finds the wall coverage area, subtracts the openings you enter, optionally adds the ceiling, and applies your planning allowance. It then uses sheets = ceil(adjusted coverage area ÷ selected sheet coverage).
For example, 320 sq ft of coverage with a 10% allowance becomes 352 sq ft. Using 4 × 8 ft sheets with 32 sq ft of coverage each rounds up to 11 whole sheets.
Before you buy
Confirm the sheet size, panel type, thickness, and availability with the retailer or project specification. The allowance is a planning buffer you control, not an installation recommendation.
This calculator does not choose panel type, fastening schedule, joint treatment, fire rating, moisture rating, code requirements, labour, delivery, or taxes.
Method & sources
All results use the selected nominal sheet coverage. Sheet count is rounded up because drywall is purchased in whole panels; cost is shown only when the visitor enters a per-sheet price.
Important limits
- This estimates a rectangular room or known coverage area; it does not create a cut list or account for multiple rooms, sloped ceilings, trim, or complex openings.
- It does not select panel thickness, panel type, fastening, finishing, fire rating, moisture rating, or code requirements.
- Results are planning estimates, not a retailer quote or installation specification.
