Estimate panels or pickets and posts from a measured fence run and product dimensions.

Fence estimate

A simple open run normally has two terminal posts. Count corner and gate conditions as separate runs or confirm them from the selected fence system plan.

Method & sources

Panel sections round the measured run up by the panel width. For one simple run, internal line posts equal sections minus one; the calculator then adds the terminal posts you enter. This follows the manufacturer sequence of post, panel, post without inventing gate or corner geometry.

Picket count uses the picket width plus gap you enter and then applies the optional allowance. Product dimensions and spacing remain selected-product inputs.

Important limits

  • Enter each simple measured run separately for complex layouts.
  • Terminal-post input does not design corners, gates, transitions, stepped or racked slopes, or shared posts between runs.
  • This does not select a fence style, footings, frost depth, wind design, property lines, utility clearance, structural design, permits, or local requirements.
  • Results are planning estimates, not a supplier quote or installation specification.
